Brest Oblast of Belarus and Liaoning Province of China have signed a working plan to further twinning relations between the regions for 2025–2027, the press service of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee told BelTA.
The signing ceremony took place during a visit of a delegation from Brest Oblast to China. The document was signed by Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik and Governor of the Liaoning Provincial People's Government Wang Xinwei. The parties expressed mutual interest in cooperation in various sectors, including economy, trade, education, healthcare, culture, tourism, and sports, as well as in strengthening friendly relations between the peoples of Belarus and China. The regions aim to advance their twinning relations, including at the municipal level, particularly between the cities of Brest and Dalian. It is also expected that the cities of Pinsk and Liaoyang will conclude a partnership agreement.
"Cooperation between Brest Oblast and China has achieved significant results. China is among our top three trading partners. In 2024, foreign trade exceeded $444 million. Thanks to regular interaction with representatives of Chinese businesses, we received $18.8 million in direct foreign investments last year, which was 20.9 times more than in 2023," Piotr Parkhomchik stated. He added that the potential for mutual cooperation is much broader, with good examples of enterprise cooperation and the implementation of investment projects.
"As part of our visit, a commercial document will be signed to continue cooperation and provide additional supplies of products to the Chinese market worth 300 million yuan. This project is very important to us, and we are ready to provide further support for its implementation," the Brest Oblast governor emphasized. "We are interested in furthering trade, economic, and investment cooperation with Liaoning Province, deepening interregional interaction and strengthening social and cultural ties between our twin cities."
The visit of the Brest Oblast delegation, which includes officials and leaders of enterprises, will continue until 18 April. The program features business meetings, negotiations, visits to economic and production sites, and the signing of several bilateral documents.
