MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) – The queues of passenger vehicles passing through the Brest checkpoint into Poland has increased sixfold due to the Lithuania's closure of the border with Belarus, BelTA learned from the State Customs Committee of Belarus.
According to the committee, if a week ago an average of 300-400 cars were waiting to cross the Belarusian-Polish border, today the number exceeds 2,500.
Freight vehicles that previously traveled to the European Union via the Belarusian-Lithuanian border have also been rerouted to the Polish and Latvian directions, where queues grew in the first few days following Lithuania’s border closure.
After Belarus’ took retaliatory measures against the unfriendly decision by the Lithuanian authorities, requiring Lithuanian trucks to use only the Belarusian-Lithuanian border section, the number of vehicles waiting to exit to Poland and Latvia returned to levels stable for the current period.
